A little addendum to yesterday's update: The Venkmans are going on a tiny mini-tour over the next four days to places like Chicago and Wisconsin. Go check out their latest song, Linda Richman, on the music page. Or, just download it right here. Since their webpage is down right now, HalfCab is hosting a temporary site for them: go to The Venkmans' temporary website.

Wow, it's been forever since I've updated, but that doesn't mean that things haven't been happening! I apologize greatly for the long lag time between this and our last update, but anyway, there's too much news for dilly-dallying.

Unfortunately, our most important piece of news is tragic. Aaron Huth, who recorded Headfirst into Heaven with HalfCab, died early this summer from a heroin overdose. For those of you who don't know the story, I found Aaron through a friend who told me to check out his band's music. While perusing their mp3.com site, I came across a lo-fi recording of an acoustic song that I instantly fell in love with. I contacted Aaron and badgered him to come to the studio so that we could get a recording with good equipment, and he agreed. I didn't get to know Aaron too well, obviously, but just from what I saw in the studio, I can say that he was a very talented musician. He was happy and cooperative, and he could play up a storm. I wanted Aaron to come and record because I feel that songs like Headfirst should last forever, and recording is my way of trying to ensure that. Unfortunately, there isn't a similar immortalizing process for the actual musicians who make such great music, and the best we can do is remember them. Aaron, you are missed.

Changing gears, the HalfCab comp release show went off incredibly well. A belated thanks to everybody who showed up to make it so rocking. :) I promise that, in my next update, there will be pictures so that you can see what it was like/remember it.

In recording news, Craften Layer has recorded with HalfCab Records this summer, doing a nice hardcore five-song demo. The studio is open for the rest of the summer season, which goes until about September 15th or so for me, so if you still want to record, get in touch with me. And finally, many small things have been updated on the site, so poke around again, and see if you can notice what's new!

Until next time,
David
