Corkscrew has been recording successfully over the past two days, and it looks like that project will finish up in not too long. As for the comp, I updated the schedule in the post below this. Look at all those bands! Argh wooo, I love recording, and it's a good thing I do, because that's a full schedule for the next few days. I'll let you know how it all goes. :)

Short update today. I listened back to the song from yesterday (by The Coincidentals), and I decided there was much I didn't like about the mix, so I went and did it again. The guitar is now a truly stereo beast, and the snare drum from hell has been fixed. These modifications, along with other smaller ones I forget, make the song sound a whole lot better. I uploaded the new mp3; go check it out.

Upcoming schedule (so I don't forget, but you can check it out, too):

    Corkscrew: 8/19 at 4 pm
Out of Line: 8/22 at 9 am
    A Letter Home: 8/23 at 12 pm
    MVD: 8/24 at 6:30 pm
    Fallout: 9/7

Hello again from HalfCab Records! The Coincidentals recorded this morning. They're a three-piece punk band that reminds me of The Alkaline Trio a bit, and they did a song called, "Relief." It, like so much else lately, will show up on the impending comp CD :) Check it out on the music page.

In other news, we're now collecting the to-be-donated comp songs. If your band wants a song on our comp CD that you have already recorded, NOW is the time to get in touch with us and get us a copy. We have an immutable and fast-approaching deadline of mid-September, so hurry up. Thanks :)

Finally, my friend Dave's recordings are progressing. His Corckscrew Project CD is moving. More secret details later.

Hello again! Things continue to move in the world of HalfCab Records. Today, Better Than You came back and recorded three songs, all of which were covers of songs I've never heard covered before. I used my new favorite drum miking technique again, and again, it didn't disappoint me; the toms sound big, the kick is whoompy and solid, and everything is in proportion and accurate. Also, I've remixed Integrosphere, changing the guitar sound, bass compression, and relative volumes. I think it's much improved, but let me know. In other news, the J-Walker album is moving forward, although it has hit a small roadblock as we await a member's return from a vacation. Once he's back to finish his few remaining undone parts, the CD will be mixed and released; expect a final date around August 15th-17th. Thanks for stopping by :) Maybe soon I'll put up one of the Better Than You covers.

The theme of today's update is, "oh my oh my slap-pop rock crazy crazy." These are the words I have chosen to describe the most recent HalfCab Records recording. My friend Dan, and his as-of-yet-unnamed band, came in yesterday and rocked out completely. Their style is like hard, old-school Incubus, replete with matching vocalist. I mean, these vocals are hard, in tune, and straight up good funky Incubus style. Now, I don't mean that they're an Incubus rip, because they're not; I'm just trying to set the tone for this song. And you know what that tone also consists of? A brain-rattling slap-pop bassline that was put down on a 5-string by an incredibly talented player. Every member of this four-piece group showed talent in the studio, and it's my opinion that it came through in the recording. Are you interested yet? Good. Get it here.

BIG THINGS COMING SOON!!
Usually on the internet, that last sentence means that big things are actually never going to come; however, at HalfCab Records, you've seen (and will see again!) that it actually means big things are coming. In fact, I can back this up because, for one of them, the recording is already done, and it is fantastic. My cousin's band, J-Walker, from Connecticut, invited me out to record them in one marathon, three-and-a-half day session. I took them up on it, and we all worked 50+ hours in those three-and-a-half days, finishing fifteen tracks for a nice, long full-length!! What's more, space limitations in my packing for the plane forced me to bring only part of the studio....bad, right? Not at all. I tried miking the drums with only two condensers, positioned precisely, and the drum sound floored me. I might just KEEP doing it that way; it's that good. Have I piqued your interest? If not, check your pulse.

News item two: Progress on the comp continues. Some J-Walker is going there for sure, but also, there is a new band coming this monday (the 5th) to record. More on that as news breaks :)

News item three: Better Than You is coming back next saturday (the 10th) to do two more songs! Heck yeah good, ol' pop punk rock and roll. I'll keep you updated on that, too.

OK, that's it!! Awesome things and times for HalfCab. Let me know what you think of everything :)

Aaron Huth, of Annihilate Now!, came to the studio this last friday, and he recorded something awesome. That's basically all there is to it. I heard mp3's of Aaron's old band, Everday Joe, from mp3.com, and at the end of the song list there was one scratchy demo recording of a song called "Headfirst into Heaven." Although it was maybe the worst recording ever, I was totally hooked on the song from the first time I heard it. Anyway, half a year later, he came to the HalfCab studio and did a new version of it. It's acoustic guitar and singing, and it is one of my favorite recordings we've done to date. Go get it on the music page or by clicking here.
