Old News 5
12/3/2002
Guess what? The comp is coming. This time, though, there's a date. Healeydisc.com is handling the mass duplication effort, and their latest projection is a delivery date of December 16th, 2002. Yes, that's right; in under two weeks, I'll be back home in Maryland for Christmas break, and the compilation will have officially arrived. I'm very excited about this. If you check the old news archives, you'll find that we all started this huge project near the beginning of the summer. Honestly, a quarter-year timeframe is unbelievably fast for something of this magnitude, but at the same time, three or four months is LONG when you're constantly thinking about it! Thanks for all the help, everybody, and I hope you guys like it when it's finally here.
In related news, Mandy and Katie are working on planning our massive extravaganza CD release show. The date will be March 22nd, and it will be at the Grange Hall. We already booked it, and of course, I'll give you many, many details as the date approaches. We'll be selling these longgggg before March 22nd, though, so don't worry. The show will just be our ornamental release party, so come celebrate with us!
Final notes....the comp price projection I quoted a long time ago will be totally accurate. Copies can be had for $5 each. For bands (or promoters or individuals) who want to purchase a bunch of copies to resell, there will be a sliding price scale. Like anything you buy in bulk, the price will dip as the number increases. The sooner I can recoup my investment in duplication, the better, so please find some reason to buy 456 compilation CDs. Thank you. :) Here are my first estimates for the price scale:
1-5 copies: $5 (each)
6-25 copies: $4
26+ copies: $3
Ok, I'll check back in with you guys soon, and I'll fix the sliding scale to be finalized; right now it's just an estimate! Bye!

THE COMP IS DONE!!
That's right; it's finally done! This is amazing. It weighs in at 23 tracks and just under 74 minutes, the maximum allowable
length for standard audio CD's. Here's how the track listing will probably end up:
I'm very, very excited about this. Now that it's done, we need to create the artwork for the release and also decide on where/how
to get it duplicated. I'll update here when I know the story on all of that.
Speaking of updating, I probably won't update for a few days at least and maybe longer. On wednesday, the 18th of September,
I finally take off for California and Stanford, and the studio closes for the season. Now, by "the season," I mean, "until I
get back on Christmas break." I'll let you all know (in an update) when my break is, and we can start scheduling bands right
off the bat, hopefully. Anyway, I bet I'll be pretty occupied at school, so don't fret if I update sparsely; I'll still put up
the news when the big things happen, like say, the comp is released.
In other HalfCab Records news, the J-Walker CD is DONE. That is, it's mastered and everything. Also, the Corkscrew CD is done
being recorded. It still needs mixing and mastering, but it's done being recorded. I also got all the donation songs for the
comp, as you can see, and the of the two Parallax (formerly Drone) songs, one is all done, and the other just needs a touch of
mixing and mastering. Check out a J-Walker song and a Corkscrew song (FINALLY hah) on our music page.
Ok, since that takes care of the "other news" section, it's time for the closing remarks.
So, I'll be back for Christmas, and we'll record again! Until then, I want to say thank you for supporting the studio this
year, and I had a blast recording all of you. I know the rest of the HalfCab Records staff feels the same way, and we're
eager to get things rolling again as soon as we can.
Talk to you later,
David
