Site Use and Privacy Policy

CienciaPR takes your privacy seriously. Please read the following to learn more about our site policy, both for privacy concerns and in general.

What This Privacy Policy Covers

This policy covers how CienciaPR treats your registered account information. Personal information is information about you that may identify you—such as your name, address, e-mail address, or phone number—and that is not otherwise publicly available. This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that CienciaPR does not own or control, or to people that CienciaPR does not employ or manage.

Information Collection and Use

Please read this section carefully.

NOTE: If this policy seems unusual to you when compared to the policies of other sites, please keep in mind that CienciaPR's mission is to disseminate information about the science in Puerto Rico and produced by Puerto Ricans, and to facilitate interactions among people interested in science and Puerto Rico.

  • We want to advertise to young people and to the world that our research and scientific community is vibrant and that it has an impact on a global scale.
  • We want people who might be interested in collaborating, being mentors or mentees, or finding partners for entrepreneurial activities to be able to find one another.

Information we collect: CienciaPR only collects the personal information that you provide when you register with CienciaPR. Your information is automatically added to a database, in order to create an interactive, online scientific community. CienciaPR has policies in place to safeguard all information on our databases.

Information we share: Your name, title, institution, and map location will be publicly available through the Internet unless you state otherwise in your account settings. To protect your privacy, however, we DO NOT disclose your phone, email, or address information to unregistered visitors. Phone and address are only disclosed to fellow registered CienciaPR users if you allow it. To further protect your privacy, your email address is not published at all. CienciaPR members can contact you via our online message system. You may modify your privacy settings at any time by making changes in your account interface.

CienciaPR reserves the right license to partner sites information regarding CienciaPR members for the purposes of analysis or display only. We will NOT share your information with groups that wish to send unsolicited email, sell you something, or to do anything other than analyze or display your user information. All our interactions with other organizations regarding our databases are ruled by a Non-Disclosure Agreement, which legally binds them to respect this Privacy policy. We feel that our policy is reasonable given the mission of CienciaPR. However, you are free to exempt your information from licensing it to any third party at any time. Simply make this selection in your Account Settings page.

CienciaPR also reserves the right to generate aggregated user statistics for the purposes of disseminating information about the Puerto Rican scientific community and our audience in general. These statistics will always be created in such a way that none of them contain personally-identifiable information. They will be designed to reflect our member base as a whole and never any individual user.

Information submission and use: It is against the terms of CienciaPR to upload any copyrighted material to CienciaPR unless you are the copyright holder or you have obtained the appropriate permissions from the copyright holder. CienciaPR users retain their copyright on material that they upload to CienciaPR, unless otherwise noted. However, users agree to extend copyright privileges to CienciaPR on any material that they upload. These privileges include, but are not limited to, the ability to reproduce the material in any format, and the ability to take action against any party infringing on the material's copyright. These privileges are important to the functioning of CienciaPR because they allow CienciaPR to display user information without worrying about infringing on a copyright. These privileges also allow CienciaPR to protect your information from unauthorized use, since they allow CienciaPR to take action with regard to the material. CienciaPR reserves the right to modify any material uploaded to the site by any user. Modifications will be marked.

You can edit or delete your CienciaPR account information at any time by visiting Account Settings.

When you register with CienciaPR, or at any time after registration, you can choose to subscribe to the CienciaPR email mailing lists. You can remove yourself from any of these mailing lists at any time by changing your Account Settings preferences. The mailing list is used to send low-volume newsletters of high relevance to the CienciaPR community. By default, other registered users can contact you via a form linked from your user profile. If you receive messages this way that you feel qualify as spam, please report them to us immediately. We take spam very seriously and will take appropriate action against the user who contacted you inappropriately. To disable this contact form, visit your Account Settings.
