Recently Puerto Rico had its first reported case of the Zika virus. This virus is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti female mosquito, which also transmits dengue fever and chikungunya.

Chikungunya has been declared an epidemic in Puerto Rico. Among the symptoms cause by this virus, transmitted by a mosquito bite, are muscle and joint pain, fever, and skin rash, among others.
