Frequently Asked Questions?

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects (Source: Wikipedia)

What if I’m a newbie?

No problem, no prior knowledge is required to participate in HackPR. A hackathon is a great place to learn to code or to gain experience. Most hackers will have no problem in assisting you with any problem you need, plus there will be on-site mentors ready to aid fellow hackers in the most popular languages and platforms. Come, we got you covered.

I’m not a student, can I still participate?

Sure! HackPR is open for everyone and anyone that is up for a great hacking experience.

What should I bring?

The bare minimum would be a laptop and its charger, plus all components needed for developing your hack. There will be tons of food, snacks and energy drinks at the event. There will also be tons of wall plugs and chairs, but we encourage you to bring your own multi-plug just in case. Remember that the event spans over 24 hours so don’t forget to bring any hygiene products you might need. Sleeping gear is welcome too!

Can I start working before the hackathon?

All code developed towards your hack must be developed during the appointed time. That being said, the design specifications of the hack can be drafted beforehand.

Demos?

There will be an opportunity to demo at the end of the hackathon. While it is not mandatory to demo your hack, it is highly recommended that you do so. You will gain recognition for your hard work and the feedback received afterwards is invaluable.
