The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) seeks nominations for assistant professors and senior postdoctoral researchers to participate in the 2014 ASBMB Grant-Writing Workshop, June 12-14, Washington D.C.

For the past few years, the ASBMB has been working to identify and address the barriers that prevent early-career faculty from successfully securing research support from federal agencies. In response to the society’s findings, ASBMB is hosting the second annual workshop for early-career faculty and postdoctoral researchers in biochemistry and molecular biology to assist them in grant-writing and career development.

Key features of the workshop will include:

• Talks by NSF program officers about funding opportunities and strategies for successful proposal submission

• Presentations by attendees on ideas and approaches for federal funding, which will be followed by critical feedback from a panel of expert reviewers

• A mock review panel to provide insight into the grant review process

• Case-study driven discussions related to beginning a career in academia, ethical standards of conduct, and strategies for long-term success

• Ample opportunities for networking with other attendees and faculty mentors

We invite you to nominate assistant professors (preferably within their first three years) and senior postdoctoral researchers preparing to transition into an independent academic positions to participate in this workshop.

Nomination materials must be submitted to ASBMB by Friday, May 2, 2014. All nominations must include the nominee’s CV, a one-page research statement, and a letter of nomination from the nominee’s department head or PI confirming their willingness to cover the nominee’s travel and lodging expenses. A limited number of travel awards are available to support the participation of promising postdoctoral scientists.

Detailed information and nomination instructions can be found at: www.asbmb.org/grantwriting.
