The Holden Arboretum and Cleveland Botanical Garden invites applications
for a full time Scientist to conduct basic and applied research in plant
biology. We are targeting two particular areas of specialization: plant
community/restoration ecology and ecological genetics; we will select
the best candidate in either area.

The scientist will establish an internationally recognized research
program in plant biology and must demonstrate the ability to lead a
strong, independent, extramurally funded research program, and to be a
spokesperson to diverse public and professional audiences regarding
research activities. Staff Scientists currently conduct research in four
broad areas: forest and soil ecology, plant physiology, plant breeding,
and applied urban ecology. We are especially interested in individuals
who may be able to incorporate our extensive natural areas and
collection of woody plant species in their research program. The ability
to work in both natural and manmade environments, potentially ranging
from urban to forested ecosystems, is desired.

The Holden Arboretum (www.holdenarb.org) is an AAM accredited museum
that promotes the beauty and importance of trees and plants and is one
of the largest arboreta in the country with over 3600 acres of gardens,
documented plant collections, and natural areas. Holden and the
Cleveland Botanical Garden recently combined to create the 13th largest
public garden in the US. The research program is housed in a modern
science center that contains 15,000 square feet of greenhouse and
research facilities. This position will be based at the science center
in Kirtland, Ohio. Scientists have the opportunity for academic
appointments and interdisciplinary interactions with students and
faculty from neighboring universities including Case Western Reserve
University (www.cwru.edu), Kent State University (www.kent.edu), and The
Ohio State University (www.osu.edu).

Interested applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology, ecology,
horticulture or related discipline; postdoctoral experience is
preferred. However, candidates at any level of experience will be
