CienciaPR Site and Privacy Policy
CienciaPR takes your privacy seriously. Please read the following to learn more about our site policy, both for privacy concerns and in general.
What This Privacy Policy Covers
This policy covers how CienciaPR treats your registered account information. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable, such as your name, address, e-mail address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available. This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that CienciaPR does not own or control, or to people that CienciaPR does not employ or manage.
Information Collection and Use
CienciaPR collects only the personal information that you input when you register with CienciaPR. Your information is automatically added to a database, the purpose of which is to create an interactive, online community. As such, the information that you enter will be publicly available through the Internet unless otherwise indicated (see below). To protect your privacy, however, we DO NOT disclose your contact information to unregistered visitors. Contact information is only disclosed to fellow registered CienciaPR users.
Please read this section carefully. If it seems unusual to you when compared to the policies of other sites, please keep in mind that part of CienciaPR's mission is to organize and disseminate user information to the public. Therefore, CienciaPR reserves the right to license the information that you add to your profile to partner sites for display purposes only (e.g. not to groups that wish to send unsolicited e-mail or to do anything other than reproduce your user information on a different site.) CienciaPR is a public database, so please understand that information that you enter will be publicly available (unless you exempt yourself by visiting "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page.) In the case that CienciaPR engages in a partnership with another site that involves the licensing of CienciaPR user data, we will notify all users beforehand. While we feel that this policy is reasonable given the mission of CienciaPR, you are free to exempt your information from license to any third party at any time. Simply visit "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page.
CienciaPR reserves the right to generate aggregate user statistics for use in site development, advertising, general analysis, and any other purpose. These statistics will always be created in such a way that none of them contain personally-identifiable information. They will be designed to reflect our member base as a whole and never any individual user.
It is against the terms of CienciaPR to upload any copyrighted material to CienciaPR unless you are the copyright holder or you have obtained the appropriate permissions from the copyright holder. CienciaPR reserves the right to modify any material uploaded to the site by any user. Modifications will be marked. CienciaPR users retain copyright on material that they upload to CienciaPR, unless otherwise noted. However, users agree to extend copyright privileges to CienciaPR on any material that they upload. These privileges include, but are not limited to, the ability to reproduce the material, in any format, in perpetuity and the ability to take action against any party infringing on the material's copyright. These privileges are important to the functioning of CienciaPR because they allow CienciaPR to display user information without worrying about infringing on a copyright; these privileges also allow CienciaPR to protect your information from unauthorized use, since they allow CienciaPR to take action with regard to the material.
The contact feature available through CienciaPR user profiles to e-mail CienciaPR members is only to be used by CienciaPR members to communicate with each other about specific, personally-applicable issues. That is, it is against CienciaPR policy to use this feature to contact CienciaPR members with irrelevant solicitation or other questionable material. We take all reports of such contact seriously and may suspend or revoke the accounts of users who abuse this system.
General Preferences and Your Ability to Edit and Delete Your Account Information
You can edit, delete, or hide your CienciaPR account information at any time by visiting "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page.
When you register with CienciaPR, or at any time after registration, you can choose to subscribe to the CienciaPR e-mail mailing list. This mailing list is a strictly opt-in mailing list, and you can remove yourself from it at any time by visiting "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page. The mailing list is used to send low-volume newsletters of high relevance to the CienciaPR community. If you have not chosen to subscribe to the CienciaPR mailing list, you will not receive the CienciaPR newsletter. However, we reserve the right to send e-mail to our registered members when important circumstances arise, such as a change in CienciaPR policy, privacy policy, page status, etc. such administrative e-mails will be very rare in nature.
By default, your e-mail address is hidden from all users. To change this, visit "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page. Also by default, other registered users can contact you via a form linked from your user profile; their form input will be sent to your e-mail address. If you receive messages this way that you feel qualify as spam, please report them to us immediately. We take spam very seriously and will take appropriate action against the user who contacted you inappropriately. To disable this contact form, visit "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page.
You can also choose not to display any of your information online at all. To do this, visit "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page. This option allows you to have an account with CienciaPR but remain unfindable and inaccessible via the CienciaPR website. Although we highly discourage choosing this approach, you can choose to hide your registered account at any time. Even if your account is hidden, we reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the CienciaPR site, such as service announcements and administrative messages (see previous paragraph). Hidden accounts will also be used in aggregate user statistics analysis. CienciaPR reserves the right to create a directory (or directories) of user information in any format, not limited to online presentation (e.g. printed directories). In such case where this right is exercised, CienciaPR will announce the plan to all users beforehand and then create the directory(ies), including the information in hidden accounts. Finally, you can also delete your CienciaPR account at any time by visiting "Modify My Personal Information" on the "User Panel" page. If you choose to do this, we will not keep any records of your account for future display in any form.
Updates to the Privacy Policy
CienciaPR may update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the e-mail address specified in your CienciaPR account and/or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
