The YSM Science Fellows Program is designed to support the research and postdoctoral careers of outstanding research scientists. The program aims to attract top PhD and MD/PhD recent graduates to engage in independent research and support them in transitioning into open faculty positions at Yale or other institutions. Fellows will receive mentorship and sponsorship, a generous stipend, and training in leadership, communication, and grant writing.

We will implement an innovative cohort-based scientific development program that will focus on mentorship, individual and group coaching, career development, leadership development, and community building; a special emphasis will be placed on sponsorship. Fellows will build their individual scientific programs initially embedded within a team of 2-3 collaborating faculty and as members of a YSM department with overlapping research interests, with the express purpose of facilitating the YSM Fellow’s development of an independent research program. They will meet twice a year with their faculty mentoring committee that includes their departmental chair. Accepted fellows will develop stated success metrics (i.e., completion of research milestones, publications, and grants) with their department chairs. Upon achievement of these metrics, fellows may transition into a tenure track research position, with an independent and competitive startup package

YSM Science Fellows will receive the following resources to support their research goals and career development:
