Renowned Puerto Rican marine biologist receives world-class award

Dr. Edwin Hernandez is only the second Puerto Rican to receive the valuable certification from the Society for Ecological Restoration. 

Dr. Edwin Hernández, recognized for his projects related to coral cultivation and reef rehabilitation, was certified as a professional restoration ecologist by the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), a global network that fosters the exchange of knowledge and experience among experts and scientists from diverse disciplines and backgrounds.

“Borinqueñas en STEM: La exhibición” opens

Catedrático del RUM recibe subvención de $150 mil para estudiar impacto de los parques eólicos

Dr. Umberto Ciri, associate professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (INME) at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), received a $150,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to study the effects of large-scale offshore wind farms associated with the climatic conditions of Puerto Rico.

La iniciativa de manufactura aditiva patrocinada por la National Science Foundation (NSF) (propuesta NSF-HSI # 2224801), está desafiando a los estudiantes de las escuelas del área metropolitana de Puerto Rico a identificar problemas globales y crear soluciones usando la manufactura aditiva como herramienta. Como parte de este programa, recientemente tuvimos el placer de recibir a alumnos y maestras de la “Escuela del Pueblo Trabajador”, una institución educativa Trujillana, cuyo método de enseñanza está basado en el método de la reconocida educadora María Montessori.

Presented two projects on environmental impact and health in the face of exposure to chemical compounds in the Puerto Rican community.

(Aguadilla, P.R. - November 23, 2022) The University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla (UPRAg) stood out with the presentation of two projects on environmental impact and exposure to chemical compounds in the Puerto Rican community, at the Annual Conference of the American Public Health Association last November 6-9 held in Boston, Massachusetts.

GSA recognizes RUM professor for her research in the area of water resources

Dr. Ingrid Y. Padilla Cestero, professor of the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), received recognition for becoming the first researcher from Puerto Rico to be named a GSA Fellow, after being elected as a distinguished colleague of the American Geological Society (GSA), a prestigious entity focused on the advancement of research and discovery in the geosciences.
