Sagrado alumna is selected by the National Academy of Sciences. Scientist Ivette Perfecto stands out for her research focused on the biodiversity of agricultural landscapes.

Her research focused on the biodiversity of agricultural landscapes led scientist and Sacred Heart University alumna Ivette Perfecto Rivera to become one of the newest members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in the United States.

NAS members serve - pro bono - as advisors to the nation on science, engineering and medicine. 

Two RUM Mechanical Engineering students are recognized with the Jesús Sánchez Vázquez Excellence Scholarship.

Students Adriana D. Kleshick Segarra and Wilbert A. Ruperto Hernández, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (INME) of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Mayagüez Campus (RUM), received the Jesús Sánchez Vázquez Engineering Excellence Scholarship, which in its eleventh award ceremony, amounted to $2,000 for each student in recognition of their academic excellence and outstanding work.

UPR Aguadilla competes in the 2022 STEM for All Video Showcase

It is an online competition on research proposals that address a global problem and the public has until May 17 to vote for their favorite. 

Aguadilla, PR - The University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla is competing with its research project entitled Citizen Science as Teaching Tools in "The 2022 STEM for All Video Showcase: Access, Inclusion, and Equity" video exhibition that will be held online May 10-17 in a voting contest on social media and on its website: https://stemforall2022.videohall.com/presentations/2417.

RUM students win first and third place in National Biology Honor Society regional poster competition

Students Camila Alejandra Pagán Melvin and Alysa Michelle Alejandro Soto, both from the Biology Department of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Mayagüez Campus (RUM), received the John C. Johnson Award for winning first and third place, respectively, in the poster competition of the National Biology Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta Beta Beta (ββββ), at its recent district convention, Caribbean region, which was held in virtual format.

NASA selects Puerto Rican educators for summer training on Artemis project and return to the Moon

Polytechnic University Students Take First Place in Prestigious Aerospace Competition

San Juan , April 12, 2022 - The team composed of eight mechanical engineering students from Polytechnic University won First Place Overall and First Place Regular ClassMission Performance in the SAE Aero Design West competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers held this past weekend in California.

The aircraft, with a highly innovative design, performed perfectly the established flights and missions requested, which made them obtain the first places among more than 50 universities. The participating students were: Gabriel Altuz, Eduardo Siberio, Joel Lopez, Diego Ortiz, Alana Corahanis, Diego Santiago, Jammyl Andino and Sergio Urbina led by Professor Jose Pertierra from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. 

Boricua students receive the Graduate Research Fellowship Program grant

We would like to congratulate all the students who received the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This fellowship recognizes and supports students who have excelled in science, mathematics, technology or engineering (also known as STEM disciplines) and other fields of knowledge. Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $34,000 per year to pursue graduate studies. The application is highly competitive and extensive, requiring several letters of recommendation, a personal essay and a research proposal with an intellectual merit section and a societal impact section.
