Comunicación generacional: ¿Cómo comunicar las ciencias a una audiencia general en la era de Facebook, Twitter y Wikipedia?

Desde los tiempos de antaño, los medios se han alimentado de los famosos estándares de popularidad (“ratings”) para medir el éxito o impacto en sus seguidores.  Entonces, no es sorprendente que la audiencia te suba al tope de las encuestas o te haga caer en un profundo abismo.  Lo que ha cambiado es la versatilidad y rapidez con que se dan estos escenarios.  Muchas veces se piensa que el gusto de la audiencia es puramente generacional, pero existen factores que trascienden más allá de la jerga generacional, la tecnología de último momento o las gráficas y visuales llamativos que se usen, como lo es el contenido del mensaje, ya sea fragmentado o en su totalidad.  Es por esto, que cuando se habla de temas científicos, que por lo general se consideran aburridos o fuera del interés de la au

Postdoctoral Associate: Two year position available immediately in the Department of Biology at the University of Vermont to study the structural and biomechanical properties of thick filaments in combination with comparative proteomics and evolutionary approaches.  The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: Molecular biology, Drosophila genetics, Phylogenetics, Electron microscopy, Atomic force microscopy, Protein biochemistry, Proteomics, Muscle physiology. Congrats to Puerto Rican students who received awards at ABRCMS!

During November 7-10 the twelfth Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) took place in San Jose, California. ABRCMS is the largest professional conference for minority students in science, engineering and mathematics.

As in previous years, a large number of Puerto Rican students attended the conference. Ciencia Puerto Rico was not able to attend this year but we received news that a large number of students from Puerto Rican received awards.

Through this blog post we wish to acknowledge and extend our congratulations to the awardees. Thanks for representing Puerto Rico so well!

Llamada para propuestas sobre la conservación de los recursos del Río Mameyes

La Asociación de Acampadores de Puerto Rico, Inc. (ADAPRI) anuncia una competencia para proyectos que tienen alto potencial para impacto directo en la conservación de los recursos del Río Mameyes, el río más prístino en Puerto Rico. Estaremos recibiendo propuestas hasta el 15 de diciembre 2012 a partir de hoy. Otorgaremos un máximo de $5000 entre las propuestas escogidas. Nos reservamos el derecho de aceptar más de una propuesta o no aceptar ninguna.

During the past 4 years, the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Latinos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) has organized the SACNAS Leadership Institute (SLI), a week of workshops and seminars free of any cost.  This initiative is sponsored by National Institutes of Health (NIH) in collaboration with the American association for the Advacement of Science (AAAS).
