Professor from UPRM receives Paul Erdös Award 2016

Doctor Luis F. Cáceres Duque, Professor from the Mathematical Science Department at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez Campus, received the Paul Erdös Award at the Univesity of Hamburg in Germany on July 30, 2016. This prestigious award is given by the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions for those who have played a significant role in the development of mathematical challenges in the 20th century.

Student from UPR-Mayaguez wins first place in poster competition at Annual Conference in California

Calle Hoyos, a graduate student from the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, won first place in the poster competition during the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Annual Conference & Expo 2016 held in Anaheim, California during May 21-24, 2016.

Francisco Proskauer Valerio won the bronze metal at the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad. The competition was held in Hong Kong and more than 100 countries participated.

14 High School students graduate from project seed

During this summer fourteen talented high school students are participating in summer resarch through Project Seed, an initiative sponsored by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This program takes place at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus.

Puerto Rico wins gold in the XVIII Central America and Caribbean Math Olympiad

The Puerto Rican team, obtained gold, silver and bronze in the Central America and Caribbean Math Olympiad celebrated in Jamaica. The delegation composed by Gustavo Santiago, Miguel Tulla y Omar Santiago, succesfully obtained the second place amongst the 13 countries competing.

DR. JOSÉ L. CRUZ IS APPOINTED LEHMAN COLLEGE’S THIRD PRESIDENT

The Board of Trustees of The City University of New York today appointed Dr. José L. Cruz, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Fullerton, and a frequent speaker and writer on higher education issues, as the third president of Herbert H. Lehman College in the Bronx. Chancellor James B. Milliken recommended Cruz’s appointment following a nationwide search.

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust (PRSTR) presented the winner of the first local edition of the international competition Global Impact of the Singularity University. Simara López Laboy, a 22 years old Biochemistry doctoral student was the winner of three finalists selected by local judges and representatives of the prestigious institution located in Silicon Valley, California.

AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) and General Electric (GE Healthcare) have selected Carlos Villafañe as the biomedical equipment technician (BMET) of the year. He will receive this award on June 4, 2016 during the 2016 AAMI Conference & Expo in Tampa, Florida.
