Decidida y con mucho entusiasmo, una estudiante de la escuela superior Eugenio María de Hostos de Mayagüez fue la última en ser seleccionada pero, aceptó el reto de participar en el Campamento de Verano CREST 2018.

Con tan solo tres (3) semanas de preparación, Arelys Marzán obtuvo el primer lugar en la competencia de afiches ofrecida por los campamentos de verano del Centro de Excelencia en Investigación de Ciencias y Tecnología (CREST por sus siglas en inglés) y Centro de Investigación de Ingeniería para Tecnologías de Fabricación Celular (CMaT por sus siglas en inglés) ambos de la UPR Recinto de Mayagüez.

Estudiantes destacados en Labor Creativa, Empresarismo, Innovación, Investigación o Servicio fueron reconocidos mediante ceremonia celebrada en el Anfiteatro Figueroa Chapel en el Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez.

Con mucho entusiasmo, el Dr. Agustín Rullán, Decano de Ingeniería dirigió a los presentes con las siguientes palabras, “este es el primer reconocimiento a jóvenes emprendedores de ingeniería. La universidad debe ser un lugar fértil para que germinen las buenas ideas.”

Agradeceríamos su participación en la siguiente encuesta sobre programas de postgrado en el Departamento de Ciencias Ambientales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río Piedras.

Para satisfacer mejor las necesidades futuras de los estudiantes graduados y de Puerto Rico, estamos revisando el programa actual de MS-PhD y desarrollando otras opciones de títulos, tales como una Maestría Profesional en Ciencias Ambientales y una Maestría en Ciencias Forestales. Estas opciones podrían ayudar a promover la conservación de recursos y el desarrollo económico sostenible, y servir mejor al público de Puerto Rico.

Hoy más que nunca se hace imprescindible fomentar el emprendimiento científico y apoyar a todos aquellos que quieren crear una empresa con base en las ciencias, desde el ámbito de la investigación al mundo empresarial. Para ello, la Sección de Puerto Rico del American Chemical Society (ACS-PR), ha desarrollado un programa único e innovador que busca facilitar el procesode emprendimiento enciencias, y fomentar el esfuerzo por acercar la cultura de la ciencia y el emprendimiento científico a la sociedad, a través del reconocimiento y entrenamiento deemprendedores científicos en Puerto Rico.

Ignite Biotech Summer Program, gratis para estudiantes de escuelas públicas

¡Matricúlese en o antes del 11 de mayo para asegurar su espacio!  Con el propósito de fomentar el interés por los aspectos científicos, económicos y legales de la biotecnología, el cuarto anual Ignite Biotech Summer Program se llevará a cabo del 18 al 29 de junio.  El Ignite Biotech Summer Program es un campamento de biotecnología auspiciado por Fundación Amgen, Colegio San Ignacio y Auxilio BioLab, donde hasta 36 estudiantes de escuela secundaria (grados 10 en adelante) y hasta 10 maestros van a clonar el cDNA de eritropoyetina, transferirlo a un plásmido de expresión mamífera y expresar la proteína en células CHO.

The College of Human Medicine of Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a bioinformatics scientist for appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Translational Science and Molecular Medicine.  This is a three-year, fixed term position. The primary duties of the successful candidate will be to collaborate with biomedical faculty within TSMM in the analysis and interpretation of informatics data sets and provide statistical expertise. The candidate will also have time, if desired, to develop an independent line of research. Candidates should be experts in the domain of bioinformatics and be versed in analysis of next-generation sequencing and epigenetics data, and possess the skills to develop novel approaches and workflows as needed.

SHPE's Women In Leadership Summit

This past Friday, April 20th, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) hosted their first ever Women in Leadership Summit, where they had a panel of guests talk about their careers and their trajectory. The roster of guests was full of women, with Alexandra Lúgaro, Ada Monzón, Gretchen Clavell, Daneris Fernández, Dr. Madeline Torres Lugo, and Dr. Mari Luz Zapata, as well as Mariano Vela, a guest speaker from Chevron.
