The call for applications for CienciaPR's Seeds of Success Program is open to the entire island. Applications must be completed on or before May 19, 2026, via sembrandosemillaspr.org.
San Juan – Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR), as part of its twentieth-anniversary celebration, invites female students from seventh to ninth grade in public and private schools, as well as homeschoolers, to participate in the Seeds of Success 2026-2027 program. The call is open to residents of Puerto Rico who are interested in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and in developing their leadership through projects with community impact. The program will be offered in a hybrid format from August to May.
Semillas de Triunfo offers access to educational workshops in STEM disciplines focused on scientific experimentation through visits to research laboratories, as well as experiments and communication, computing, and systems programming workshops. It also provides mentoring opportunities to develop leadership skills and a support network.
As part of the Semillas de Triunfo program, the development of a communication or scientific outreach project in schools or communities is promoted, and those who complete the process become part of the select group of STEM Ambassadors Class 2026-2027 of CienciaPR.
"At Ciencia Puerto Rico, we create experiences that bring science closer and strengthen leadership. With this call, opportunities in STEM are opened, and the use of science to transform communities is promoted," said Dr. Liz Hernández, program manager.
Each participant will receive a welcome package with all the necessary materials for the program. Additionally, they will have the experience of meeting leading women in STEM and role models, residing both within and outside of Puerto Rico, through mentoring activities, in-person events, the online talk series "Juntas Podemos" (Together We Can), and the Digital Collection of Latinas in STEM.
Students interested in participating in the “Semillas de Triunfo” program must review the application requirements, and if eligible, complete the two-part application: (1) complete the application form available at sembrandosemillaspr.org on or before May 19, 2026, and (2) participate in an online orientation on April 21 at 4:00 p.m. via CienciaPR's YouTube channel or view the recording on our website before May 19, 2026. A total of 120 students will be selected; however, all applicants will have the opportunity to access complementary online activities and digital resources.
For his part, Dr. Abniel Machín, director of CienciaPR's Science Education Unit, highlighted that, "We focus on presenting female leaders and role models in the STEM field, which allows them to see themselves in these careers and recognize their immense potential to transform their school environment and communities. By opening this new call for the 2026-2027 academic year, we invite them to plant their seed for the future today."
Since its creation in 2015, Seeds of Success has impacted more than 155,000 people in Puerto Rico through its participants' scientific outreach projects. The program has a coalition of collaborators from various sectors in Puerto Rico and the United States.
