Graduate & undergraduate students enrolled in minority-serving institutions can earn academic credits and valuable knowledge through the program. The program places qualified students in a variety of positions within federal, state and local health departments, community-based organizations and other organizations.

Governor Alejandro García Padilla was present when a group of CROEM (Residencial Center for Educational Opportunities of Mayagüez) alumni were recognized with the Educational Achievement Award 2013 by the Board of Directors of New York's Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The University of Puerto Rico needs to move towards the commercialization of intellectual property and its integration to a knowledge-based economy, as a way to improve its fiscall situation and to contribute to the economic development of Puerto Rico. That was the proposal of interim president Jose Lasalde Dominicci, who also proposed ramping up fundraising for the institution.

The OAS Academic Scholarship Program (Regular Program), established in 1958, grants scholarships every year for the pursuit of Master’s Degrees, Doctoral Degrees and Research leading to a degree. The OAS Special Caribbean Scholarships Program (SPECAF), established in 1983, grants scholarships for the last two years of undergraduate studies to citizens and residents of the English-speaking Caribbean OAS Member States.
