San Juan, May 20, 2024 - Lorena Pachiardi, a ninth-grade student, created and developed a prototype of a low-cost prosthetic hand on a three-dimensional (3D) printer. The project was carried out as part of the “Seeds of Success” program of the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR), which promotes STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education for girls in seventh through ninth grades in public, private and homeschoolers' schools around the island.

El programa de premios a estudiantes de postgrado de la oficina de ciencias del departamento de energía (SCGSR) te ofrece la oportunidad de hacer parte de tu investigación de tesis en uno de sus 17 laboratorios nacionales utilizando equipo avanzado (en varios casos único en el mundo) y colaborado con expertos a nivel mundial. El programa apoya estadías entre 3 y 12 meses, proveyendo un estipendio de hasta $3,600 mensuales y cubriendo transporte hasta por $2,000.

UPR Mayagüez Campus students begin 2024 with educational experience at Google

A group of 33 students from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Mayagüez Campus (RUM) participated in a Google Tech Exchange 2024 educational experience in Mountain View, California in early January. 

"This opportunity aims to empower students studying at HBCUs or HSIs (mostly Latino, Native and African American institutions) to grow in the technology industry. Participants in this program took virtual classes dedicated to developing skills in the field of Computer Science taught by Googlers, that is, engineers and software developers employed by Google with many years of experience in the computer industry," said Dr. Nayda G. Santiago, professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, coordinator of the initiative and member of its academic committee.
