Bayamón, Puerto Rico - The University of Puerto Rico at Bayamón (UPRB) announced today the celebration of the PR LSAMP Junior Tech activity. This is the largest annual event dedicated to science in Puerto Rico. Nearly 1,000 students are expected to participate in the activity, which will be offered next Saturday, April 29.

"As a leading educational institution, we are an essential part of developing the talent of our students so that they will become the scientists of the future. We are proud to host such an important scientific event, which is recognized for its strong commitment to academic excellence and for providing a conducive exposure and learning environment for students interested in STEM careers from universities across the country. It's a privilege to receive in our institution the best representatives of research at the undergraduate level, a clear sign that Puerto Rico continues to have a very promising future in the development of our workforce," said Dr. Miguel Vélez Rubio, rector of the UPR Bayamón.

The St. Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (PR-LSAMP) was created in 1991 as a collaborative venture among the leading institutions of higher education in Puerto Rico. Its purpose is to increase the number and quality of minority undergraduate students who successfully complete a baccalaureate degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) and go on to complete a graduate degree in a related field. PR-LSAMP has been the primary institutional change-maker among all alliance members in creating a genuine culture of undergraduate research and mentoring.

The event will feature a conference as a preamble to be held on April 28. While April 29, 2023 will be the day of the main event with plenary lectures and concurrent presentations of the research work of the undergraduate students who will be part of it. The event is open to the entire community, including all those who have not yet determined where they will pursue their undergraduate studies.
