The Intersections Science Fellows Symposium (ISFS) is a multi-institutional event that aims to identify talented postdoctoral researchers in the broad areas of basic and translational biological and biomedical research and:

• Showcase their scientific contributions
• Provide them meaningful mentorship through workshops, feedback, and direct access from established faculty at participating institutions before, during, and after the symposium
• Strengthen their networks and provide them with an opportunity to connect with and elevate each other and their work
• Promote the recruitment of the next generation of faculty that will reflect the diversity of this country

Applicants to the ISFS will bring a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion in academic science and will represent diverse backgrounds, including historically underrepresented minorities in academia. Applicants should be currently actively seeking academic positions or preparing to enter the US job market in the next year and be within the final 1 – 2 years of their postdoc.

Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must: 

• Be a current postdoctoral scientist (or equivalent non-tenure track, post-PhD title) who is currently in the academic job market and/or is prepared to apply to a faculty position in the U.S. within the next 1-2 years.
• Be currently training in a U.S. based lab (no citizenship requirement)
• Conduct research in a broad range of basic or translational biological or biomedical fields including, but not limited to, biochemistry, biophysics, cancer biology, cell/developmental biology, cognitive sciences or psychology, computational/quantitative biology or bioinformatics, genetics/genomics, immunobiology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, virology, etc.

Please have the following ready in order to apply:

• Research Statement (up to 1 page) - Research statements should showcase your development as a scientist as well as your scientific trajectory as an independent scientist.
• Diversity Statement (up to 1 page) - Please describe your (a) Knowledge about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and its importance in the Sciences, (b) Plans for Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Your statement can elaborate on relevant identities or lived experiences, including as a scientist from a minoritized or marginalized background, and how these have impacted your commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. The statement should also describe your involvement until now in efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in science and plans for how you will seek to advance these values as a faculty member. 
• Biosketch or Curriculum Vitae (up to 5 pages) - Please make sure it highlights your scientific achievements and productivity (i.e. papers, presentations, posters, etc.), leadership or professional development activities, awards (if any), and science communication and/or outreach activities (if any). 
• Nominations for other qualified candidates (optional).

Review of applications will begin immediately after the application deadline of August 31, 2021. Selected candidates must be able to give a short talk (15min + 5min Q&A) and attend the full (virtual) symposium on November 1-3, 2021. Fellows will have the opportunity to meet and practice their talk with their assigned mentor(s) in October 2021 and should prepare accordingly.
