APS is offering a 5-day live course on Becoming an Effective Teacher where you get to:
- Work directly with a highly experienced teacher on developing your teaching skills
- Join in discussions and activities that focus on the major areas involved in teaching
- Network with senior faculty and other trainees in a relaxed and pleasant environment.
The course is designed for upper level graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career faculty who want to develop their teaching skills. Pre- and post-workshop assignments will be required, as well as those that are part of the in-person course. As part of the course, students will develop a micro-teach demonstrating their understanding of effective teaching.
You do not need to be an APS member to apply, but you do need to be a graduate student, postdoc, or early career investigator who has the time to devote to the course before and after the live course. Members receive discounted registration.
Course Information:
The course will take place in Bar Harbor, ME at the College of the Atlantic, June 23-27, 2014. This course is subsidized by APS so you only pay $800 (APS members; non-members pay $900) for the course, meals, and accommodations in Bar Harbor. Additionally, FASEB MARC is offering a limited number of travel awards of up to $1,200 for underrepresented upper level graduate students, lower level postdoctoral fellows, and early career professionalsto help defray course registration and travel-related expenses associated with the course.
