Description

DuPont seeks a highly qualified individual to serve as Environmental Specialist. The successful candidate will provide environmental support to two DuPont Manati sites in Manati, Puerto Rico. This assignment requires a combination of regulatory knowledge, technical expertise and environmental operations leadership.

The Environmental Specialist is responsible to provide strategic leadership and program management for the environmental program(s) assigned to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, corporate policies, standards, and guidelines, and site-specific requirements. The Environmental Specialist will report to local site management and collaborate closely with appropriate site, US region, business, and corporate environmental leaders.

This position requires the environmental professional to perform environmentally technical work and to collaborate with site technical, operations, and maintenance personnel concerning environmental-related issues. This position requires minimal delegating or management of other people.

Responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
Provide technical expertise, work as an environmental Air Specialist.
Direct and provide support on Clean Air Act, New Source Review, New Source Performance Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, MACT Standards, Title V or other air operating permits, CFCs, Greenhouse Gas, calculation of emissions inventories, air emission reduction initiatives, and other associated air program requirements.
Manage or provide support for water, waste and other environmental regulatory and internal program requirements based on the specific needs of the site.
Lead environmental performance continuous improvement efforts.
Prepare and submit required reporting to federal, state and local agencies.
Lead preparation and negotiation of permit applications.
Complete environmental regulation applicability determinations.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements, site(s) procedure development and updates, routine and non-routine activities such as environmental impact assessments of site(s) projects or process changes.
Interface with regulatory agencies, prepare required documentation, schedule any required testing and provide additional follow-up documentation as required.
Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents, implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events, and record environmental deviations in the DuPont Incident Tracking System.
Lead and participate in 1st party environmental audits and coordinate site(s) 2nd party environmental audits.
Act as site(s) representative during audits by or other interactions with federal and state environmental agencies and respond to requests or notifications from environmental agencies.
Represent environmental issues in community interactions.
Maintain site(s) Responsible Care and ISO 14001 Management Systems.
Develop and deliver environmental training.
Participate on appropriate US Cluster environmental competency team(s).

Qualifications

BS or higher degree in chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science, or related technical discipline.
3-5 years of work experience in an environmental capacity (preferably within the manufacturing industry)
Fluency in Spanish, oral and written is required.
Demonstrated functional/technical expertise and moderate level of experience in the air competency area.
Knowledge of RCMS and ISO 14001 requirements
General working knowledge of and some prior experience in the water competency areas such as the Clean Water Act, Spill Prevention Controls, and Countermeasures (SPCC), Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), Safe Drinking Water Act, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Ground Water Protection.
General working knowledge of waste management.
Proficiency with MS Office including MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint plus the ability to quickly adapt to new technology.
Effective at problem solving, processing information and analyzing data, drawing on knowledge, judgment and experience to recognize potential environmental issues or opportunities for dissemination of environmental training.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience coaching/training others.
