POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are looking for organizers at many levels of experience, including people just starting in their careers; mid-career people looking to make a lateral move into a new field; and experienced organizers who can grow into the role of Lead Organizer. We are ultimately looking for someone who is eager to figure out how to create a better world. Let's do it together. Looking for people from all sorts of backgrounds. You don't have to be an organizer to grow into an organizer.

**You are NOT required to live on Vashon Island. However, organizers will have to commute to Vashon Island and various areas within King and Pierce County. Our current office is on Vashon Island, and where the majority of team meetings are held.

Responsibilities:

The core duty is to identify, recruit, and train community leaders using proven person-to-person relationship building and small group organizing methods. Also, guide and support leaders in shaping campaigns to identify wins on important issues to the well being of the community. Organizers, are those who have the heart and courage to innovate and make the world how it should be, because the way it is, is not working for our communities. We are looking for change makers with a mix of talent scouts, teachers and coaches, community leaders, strategists, field researchers, policy nerds, campaign builders, drivers of action, evaluators, administrators, listeners, agitators, and team builders.

The job is rarely boring. If selected for the first round you will be sent a typical week for organizers at each of these levels: Senior organizer, Organizer, Associate Organizer, Organizer Trainee to further explore a possible role for you. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Find people who want to change things for the better and work with them to develop their leadership skill through
  • one on one meetings (focused 40 minute conversation to build relationships for those who want to act for the common good- community identified ideas and issues of concern)
  • trainings
  • community led issue research
  • opportunities to take action to change systems not built for or by us
  • Write a weekly reflection and participate in a weekly check in with the Lead Organizer/Coach.
