The first Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) Regional Meeting on the island of Puerto Rico will be held on January 28-29th, 2016 at the University of Puerto Rico-Humacao. Our faculty development conference, Talking about Equity Is Uncomfortable but Necessary, features distinguished lecturers addressing current initiatives with successful outcomes that improve equity in classrooms and workplaces, with particular emphasis in Latinas entering the Computer Sciences. To ensure a highly interactive meeting, we will also conduct an Educational Nano-Hackathon. The Hackathon brings together educators, scientists, artists, investigators, and members of non-profit educational organizations with computer programmers, graphic designers, and business specialists to intensively collaborate on ideas for the design of software, apps, and devices that will help alleviate current equity problems. The team with the best proposal will receive a $1,000 award. Second and third place teams will be awarded $500 and $250, respectively. It is our hope that this meeting will ultimately lead to the establishment of specific collaborations between faculty from other Hispanic Serving Institutions, associations, and industries, who are genuinely interested on further submitting proposals to advance education.

Please join us for a productive two-day conference to discuss easily implemented strategies that will promote equity at your institution. Click here to view the preliminary program.
