Position: Associate Director of the Resource Center for Science and Engineering of the University of Puerto Rico

The Resource Center for Science and Engineering (RCSE) was created in 1980 with the Mission of Developing Science and Technology, R&D, Innovation, and Human Resource Development in S&T in the Jurisdiction of Puerto Rico. It manages a portfolio of $62.85M in active research grants for the UPR System and the Jurisdiction. It has funding from NSF, NASA, DOE and NIH. Since its inception, the RCSE has brought more than $455M in external funds to achieve its mission in the Jurisdiction.
The RCSE is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director. The Associate Director reports directly to the Director and Founder of the RCSE, who in turn, reports directly to the President and the Vice President for Research and Technology of the University of Puerto Rico. The UPR has an annual budget of $1.4B, and an enrollment of 56,000 students.

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for supervising a staff of Pre- and Post- Award Project Managers, the RCSE Finance and Human Resources Offices, and the Office of Support Facilities. The person will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal and university regulations that apply to grant awards managed by the RCSE, and will be responsible for preparing Financial Reports and overseeing the management of the RCSE budget. The person could be assigned to serve as the Project Administrator of the RCSE NSF EPSCoR Program, and will assist and advice the RCSE Director in establishing administrative procedures and the development of S&T Policy.

Education: Bachelor Degree in Science or Business Administration is preferred. Higher degrees of relevance to the duties of the Associate Director are welcomed.

Experience: The person must have experience in Pre- and Post- award management of federal funds and the supervision of a large staff; and must also have demonstrated leadership in previous employments. Previous experience in Industry will be considered favorably.
Skills: Competence in the use of Cyberinfrastructure and software needed to perform the Associate Director’s tasks. Mastery of the English language, both verbal and written is required, and knowledge of the Spanish language is desired, but not required. Must have the ability to interpret and implement complex regulations that govern federal funding.

Salary: Between $70K and $85K, depending on previous experience. Fringe benefits include an excellent health plan and an option for a retirement plan.
