Strengthening the preparation of future secondary science teachers The goal of the NU-Teach initiative is the development of a nationally visible academic program focused on strengthening the preparation of future secondary science teachers. This initiative represents a partnership among three of the Colleges of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR), Arts and Sciences (CAS), and Education and Human Sciences (CEHS). The NU-Teach initiative was established through a series of collaborative conversations and meetings that involved a wide array of UNL faculty and administrators. Throughout the planning process, faculty demonstrated a clear and enduring commitment to enhancing the quality of secondary science teachers. Ties to UNL Strategic Planning NU-Teach will directly support the two overarching priorities of the University ñ undergraduate education and research. These priorities align with a growing need in the state of Nebraska ñ increasing the number of highly qualified mathematics and science teachers in Nebraska schools. The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education (TLTE) in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is actively seeking doctoral students in the area of science education. TLTE is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating place to study, with faculty who think about science education broadly and deeply. We encourage you to bring your experiences, interests, and questions to a program of study in science education. Your coursework and research experiences in science education will foster growth and understanding about inquiry-based science education, teaching, and learning. The science education doctoral program is both personalized and research-intensive. We have an active and engaged scholarly community that creates the intellectual space to transform your interests and talents informed by instructional leadership, teacher education, educational contexts, educational program development, curriculum, research, and educational policy in science education. Our science education doctoral program will enhance your capacity to effect change in a range of educational settings along with developing your own scholarship and research identity. We currently have fellowships and assistantships available to provide full-time support for doctoral work in science education.
