Description

The Vice President for Research at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) invites applications for an Open Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) faculty position in the area of Urban-Natural Systems Modeling, which is part of a Cluster Hire initiative. The successful candidate will develop a high-quality research program that develops and integrates models for urban-natural systems to provide information for engineering design and decision-making. This research area is a key component of a new, campus-wide initiative, called Planet Texas 2050, which is addressing the challenges to Texas’s resiliency in the 21st century including demands from population growth, climate change, and extreme events. The design, development, and growth of resilient cities requires research that effectively considers changes in the complex interactions between components of urban and natural systems. Projections for future change in complex urban infrastructure systems and their connections to climate change and/or population growth will influence the design and management of resilient cities, forensic analyses of disasters, and understanding of challenges to public health in the 21st century.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses to a diverse student population, develop a sustainable sponsored research program, mentor graduate students, collaborate with other faculty across the university, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.
