ACADEMIC PROGRAM MANAGER, McNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Pay Grade 30E 

Under the general direction of the Faculty Director of Undergraduate Research Programs, the Academic Program Manager for the McNair and University Undergraduate Scholars (UUS) Programs is responsible for managing student programs aimed at facilitating minority retention and preparation for post-baccalaureate study, and seeking extramural funding to support program activities.  The Academic Program Manager manages and oversees the administrative and daily operations of the McNair and UUS programs, ensuring compliance with University, state, and federal policies and regulations, and establishes, implements, and oversees short and long range objectives, policies, and operating procedures.  The Academic Program Manager collaborates with graduate programs across the country to assure successful graduate school placements for McNair, UUS, and other students seeking out the services of the McNair Office

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, develop, administer, and oversee the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program, the University Undergraudate Scholars Program and other programs and scholarships  aimed at facilitating minority retention and preparation for doctoral/professional education

Develop and manage an annual operating budget for McNair and for University Undergraduate Scholars (UUS); provide interim status reports on all accounts; complete reports to the U.S. Department of Education and University of Delaware, including documentation of program activity, comprehensive statistical analysis of program data, and narrative program reports.

Continuation of scholarly production in academic field; oversee, coordinate, develop, and write grants for additional funding, including initiatives from private foundations

Manage and oversee the administrative and daily operations of the McNair and UUS programs; establish, implement, and oversee short and long range objectives, policies, and operating procedures; provide professional and/or technical leadership in the execution of day-to-day program/project activities, including design, development, and implementation of curriculum.

Supervise the identification, recruitment, selection, and advisment of McNair Scholars; maintain records all McNair alumni; hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; recruit and oversee faculty research mentors  and course instructors; recruit, convene, and coordinate an advisory panel of 6-8 faculty.

Design, develop, and administer the University of Delaware Annual McNair Conference & Graduate School Fair in coordination with graduate schools and McNair programs, as well as all graduate programs at the Univeristy of Delaware.

Collaborate with University of Delaware colleges, departments, programs, and projects, as well as with local, state, and community organizations to consolidate resources and enhance programming for McNair Scholars; collaborate with graduate programs across the country to assure successful graduate school placements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree, Ph.D. or related doctoral degree preferred, in educational administration, education, STEM or social science discipline, counseling or related field with five years related experience preferably in an educational setting.
  • Experience supervising professional and student staff and having responsibility for budgets and reports; demonstrated commitment to and experience working with TRIO populations (students from underrepresented groups and low income and/or first generation college students).
  • Experience in program evaluation and assessment, and a strong understanding of research methodologies and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal grant policies and university financial policies and practices; experience with planning and program development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; strong oral and written communication skills.
  •  Knowledge of student access and success strategies.
  • Ability to handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive situations; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the public.
