UNIDOS amplifies and coordinates the work of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSls), particularly in STEM and STEM education fields. UNIDOS is housed at Florida International University (FIU) and led in partnership with: Valencia College, California State University, Sacramento, the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras, and the University of Texas at El Paso. This position is eligible for remote/hybrid work.

Job Summary

The UNIDOS Center for HSI Community Coordination amplifies and coordinates the work of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), particularly in STEM and STEM education fields, and provides support to continue to build capacity within HSIs. The center is currently developing the infrastructure to generate and disseminate new knowledge, successful practices, and effective design principles arising from research on and work at HSIs. The Center creates a network of HSIs, HSI PIs, prospective HSI PIs and key HSI partners that are connecting, communicating, and collaborating with each other to meet and transcend the goals of the NSF HSI program and advance the success of students, staff and faculty at HSIs. The UNIDOS Center Director leads the execution of activities designed to support connections; professional development experiences for faculty, staff, and students; resource development and curation; and communication through websites, newsletters and social media. Works closely with the UNIDOS leadership team to determine the overall goals and strategy for the Center. In close collaboration with other UNIDOS staff under the Center Director's supervision, the UNIDOS Center Director will operationalize UNIDOS strategy and implement activities.

  • Works closely with the Center's leadership team to develop, implement, and execute strategies for programming of the Center. Works with the PI and leadership team to develop and implement the short- and long-term strategies, goals and action plans required to achieve the Center's vision of developing and supporting a network of HSIs, NSF HSI program PIs, prospective PIs and key partners. Provides strategic and operational leadership to support UNIDOS faculty and staff.
  • Provides leadership to the implementation of the Center's operations and creates internal procedures, structures, and processes to facilitate Center goals and objectives, in coordination with ongoing input from the Center's Steering Committee and the National Science Foundation HSI Program.
  • Oversees operational processes and identifies opportunities for process improvement.
  • Oversees and supports the implementation of all Center Activities by developing stronger synergies between HSIs, NSF HSI program PIs, prospective PIs and key partners. Organizes a biannual awardee meeting for the NSF HSI program.
  • Builds opportunities for HSIs, NSF HSI program PIs, prospective PIs and key partners to learn from each other about successful practices needed to address each of their unique problems and receive support to implement or expand on these practices. Implements proposal development workshops and resources, leadership development, mentoring programming, and faculty development related to teaching.
  • Responsible for the development of a  communication strategy for amplifying the work of HSI projects and the larger network of HSIs, NSF HSI program PIs, prospective PIs and key partners. The Center's communication activities include website, social media platforms, newsletters, etc.
  • Serves as spokesperson and advocate for the Center, articulating its vision and strategy, and communicating UNIDOS work and the work of the HSI community to different constituencies and communities. Serves as a liaison to the National Science Foundation's HSI program, prospective NSF HSI program investigators, NSF HSI program staff, the larger HSI community, funding agencies, foundations, and policymakers.
  • Supervises a team of administrative/staff/temporary employees.
  • Manages the Center's grant administrative tasks and implementation. Prepares and completes required reports for NSF.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related work experience or Master's degree in a related field and six (6) years of related work experience.

  • Degree in a STEM field, and/or STEM education, and/or other experience in STEM education.
  • Grant writing and/or grant management experience
  • Working with geographically distributed projects
