CPRTP Summer Research Experience

The Cancer Prevention Research Training Program (CPRTP) Summer Research Experience is a paid internship designed to provide research experience and mentoring for undergraduate, graduate and health profession students interested in cancer prevention research.

Through our National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded “Cancer Prevention Education: Student Research Experiences” (R25 CA056452, Dr. Shine Chang, Principal Investigator) training grant, we created this experience, which is one of a series of programs within the MD Anderson Summer Experience.

This research is supported by a curriculum of educational and career development activities. Through these activities, students will learn about current and innovative topics in cancer prevention at seminars, explore the possibility of a career in science, and get to know other MD Anderson summer students with similar interests.  Under the guidance of a matched faculty mentor, summer trainees will collaborate full-time on an independent research project and receive additional mentoring by a research staff of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research assistants and laboratory technicians.

The CPRTP Summer Research Experience program offers:

  • 10 paid weeks of mentored cancer prevention related research in a broad range of areas
  • Career development activities
  • Training in elevator speech skills and scientific posters
  • Discussion groups and more
