Molecular Lab Assistant Position

Position Description: 

Description: The main purpose of this position is to provide assistance for the identification of wide-range of pathogens, including various bacteria and viruses, from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues using pyrosequencing-based PCR/RT-PCR assays. 

Educational Qualification and Experience: B.S. or M.S. in Biology. Experience in performing general molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acids extractions, conventional and real-time PCR/RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis etc. is required for this position. 

Additional experience and proficiency in sequence and data analysis software, scientific database search tools and reference management programs is also desirable.

Specific job responsibilities:

1.​Conduct nucleic acid extractions from FFPE tissue specimens.

2.​Perform quality control and diagnostic conventional and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR)/RT-PCR assays on DNA/RNA extracted from FFPE tissues.

3. ​Perform pyrosequencing-based PCR/RT-PCR assays on DNA/RNA extracted from FFPE tissues.

4.​Perform routine maintenance for lab, including maintaining inventories, autoclaving of consumables, quality control checks, maintaining equipment logs.  These tasks will be performeddaily. 

5.​Performs general maintenance in order to maintain a clean and safe working environment.  

6.​Record and maintain hardcopy and electronic copies of laboratory notebooks detailing experiments and results. 

7.​Submit technical reports and project summaries of tasks performed, as requested.

8.​Assist in data compilation and preparation of manuscripts/presentations.
