The NIH National Graduate Student Research Festival (NGSRF) is a two-day event to be held on the NIH campus. The purpose of the festival is to bring together potential postdoctoral candidates and NIH investigators as a means of recruiting these candidates into NIH laboratories. The target group for participation is outstanding senior-level graduate students from across the country. The candidates will be selected from a national search based on abstract submissions, CVs, and a letter of recommendation from their graduate advisor. These candidates will showcase their talents and science to the NIH community through poster sessions. The research, resources, and facilities of the NIH will be highlighted in plenary sessions to be held during the festival. Group tours and individual interviews between the candidate and NIH investigators will also be conducted. By bringing the candidates to the NIH, this festival will allow NIH investigators to interview numerous potential postdoctoral fellows. The National Graduate Student Research Festival will be held October 12th – 13th, 2006 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. We will be selecting up to 250 students to spend two days talking about their research through poster sessions, meeting other students from around the U.S., learning about the research being done at NIH, and exploring postdoctoral training opportunities on the NIH campuses. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a PhD program in the U.S. and on schedule to complete their PhD degree by October, 2007. Travel and hotel expenses will be paid by NIH and meals will be provided during the Festival. If you are going to finish your PhD between October, 2206 and October, 2007, and especially if you have not made plans yet for postdoctoral training, we would welcome your application. Feel free to share this with your friends who will be graduating during this time period. Both U.S. and international students are eligible to apply. The attached flyer provides additional information about this great, what we hope will become annual, event. The deadline for application is June 1 and the online application, along with additional details, can be found at: http://www.training.nih.gov. In addition to your application a letter of recommendation is required from your PhD research advisor. I would be happy to answer any questions about the Festival, which we believe will be a rewarding and informative event for all who participate. Best wishes,
