Seattle Central is looking to hire a MESA (Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement) Director.
 
The Director of MESA serves as primary coordinator and overseer of activities funded or sponsored by the MESA program and/or for the benefit of MESA students. The primary objectives of the MESA program at Seattle Central are the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) careers, STEM education, and STEM programs to students of color and students of populations underrepresented in STEM fields; the recruitment of these student populations; facilitating success, persistence, completion and transfer to baccalaureate institutions of these student populations; and serving as a liaison for faculty and advisors. The Director of the MESA program is charged with supporting the institution to achieve the above objectives. This position reports to the Dean, Science and Mathematics.
 
Essential functions include:
·         Coordinate, plan and oversee recruitment/outreach activities, orientation activities, and events for MESA students, including campus visits, transfer fairs, scholarship fairs, resume workshops, award ceremonies and graduation celebrations
·         Serve as a resource director for MESA students – directing them to appropriate resources for tutoring, financial aid, advising, counseling and other services
·         Provide mentorship, coaching and support for MESA students
·         Manage MESA program budget coordinated with the Science and Mathematics Program Manager, under the supervision of the Dean for Science and Mathematics.
·         Recruit and sign-up MESA students
·         Track and provide data for student participation, progress, persistence, completion, and transfer; analyze, summarize and reference data in reports in a clear and engaging manner
·         Attend and actively participate in MESA Directors’ meetings and other activities (including occasional overnights), ensure successful implementation of the MESA program in accordance with MESA statewide office guidelines, and serve as primary contact for WA MESA at Seattle Central
·         Manage the MESA student center that fosters a welcoming atmosphere for social and academic purposes to ensure meeting the needs of MESA students and facilitates cohort formation
 
The position is grant funded through June 30, 2015; continuation of the position is contingent upon maintaining or finding new funding sources.
