The Ponce Health Sciences University is a fully accredited (Middle States, Liaison Committee Medical Education, Council of Higher Education), private, bilingual center of higher education located in the southern coastal city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. PHSU currently a U54 NCI-funded partnership with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC) in Tampa, FL. This U54 PHSU/MCC Partnership encompasses several collaborative activities between both Institutions, including the development of cancer research projects, student and faculty exchanges, career development programs and community outreach activities. In addition, this Partnership hosts the Puerto Rico BioBank, a blood/tumor banking effort providing high quality biospecimens, demographic and clinical data to support cancer research projects. Bioinformatics and biostatistical support for all aspects of cancer research is also available through the Quantitative Sciences Core. PHSU has a Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences, state-of-the-art Animal Research Facilities, as well as imaging, molecular and genomics, and cell culture facilities. PHSU, which was founded 35 years ago, is located in Ponce, a historical city on the southern coast of the island of Puerto Rico. Ponce is approximately 70 miles/ 100 kilometers from San Juan, it is the tropical island’s second largest urban center with many cultural activities and in close proximity to important natural/ecological reserves.

Position: Basic Sciences Cancer Researcher

The Department of Basic Sciences at PHSU invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level or higher, depending on the candidate qualifications. We are seeking individuals with either a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D., Ph.D. degrees and postdoctoral research experience. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a basic or translational, independent, multidisciplinary research program with focus on cancer. Candidates with research experience in cancer immunology or prostate cancer biology will be preferred, but all qualified candidates will be considered. She/he will also be expected to develop research collaborations with our clinical faculty and with basic cancer researchers from PHSU and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Applicants should have a publication record and grant funding commensurate with their level of academic experience, and will be expected to teach in departmental team-taught courses, as well as participate in U54- sponsored Mentoring and Career Development programs for junior faculty.
