The Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is a fully accredited (Middle States, Liaison Committee Medical Education, Council of Higher Education), private, bilingual center of higher education located in the southern coastal city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. PHSU currently has a U54 NCI-funded partnership with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC) in Tampa, FL. This U54 PHSU/MCC Partnership encompasses several collaborative activities between both institutions, including the development of cancer research projects, student and faculty exchanges, career development programs and community outreach activities. The objective of the Quantitative Sciences Core (QSC) is to serve as the focal point from which members of the Partnership can draw statistical, bioinformatics, and software development expertise for the design and management of the Partnership research projects and analysis of the resulting data.

The Quantitative Sciences Core (QSC) of the PHSU-MCC U54 Partnership invites applications for a full-time staff scientist position. We are seeking individuals with a Ph.D. in bioinformatics and research experience involving the use of genomics data. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with teams of researchers from PHSU and MCC in genomics data analysis related to diverse aspects of cancer research. The interdisciplinary nature of the services offered by the QSC provides a stimulating array of challenges relating to cancer research, genomics, and computer programming. Applicants should have a publication record in the field of genomics. A competitive salary is offered.

The following competencies will be given a high priority:

  • Data management skills (R, SQL or equivalent);
  • Analysis of next-generation sequencing data (targeted sequencing, WES, RNAseq);
  • Programming language skills (python, Perl, equivalent);
  • Analysis of whole-genome genotyping data;
  • Ability to work in a team.
