Job Description: The Ohio State University (OSU) Developmental Speech Research Lab is looking for a post-doctoral fellow for Dr. Rachael Frush Holt’s NIH-funded collaborative study between OSU, Indiana University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This project is funded by a new multi-site R01 (with Co-PI Dr. David Pisoni) from the NIDCD titled, “Family Processes in Developmental Outcomes of Pediatric Hearing Loss.” The aims of this 5-year project are to:
1) identify differences in family environment and parenting factors in families of young children with different hearing histories; and 2) to uncover the developmental mechanisms through which family and parenting factors influence spoken language and executive function development in children with hearing loss in early childhood.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in psychology, audiology, speech-language pathology, or a related field. A strong background in Family Studies and/or Developmental Psychopathology is preferred but not required. The position has a 2-year minimum, with the possibility of annual renewals thereafter.
The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to participate at most levels of the project. The responsibilities may include:
• Assisting in training and supervision of undergraduate and graduate RAs and other project staff
• Write-up and dissemination of results in academic journals and national conferences
• Data collection in families’ homes
• Data coding and analysis
• Reliability checks on data coding
• Assisting the PI in managing day-to-day project activities at OSU
• Assisting the PI in coordinating data management across the sites
• Participant recruitment
• Research grants administration and accounting
Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Psychology, Family Studies, Child Development, Audiology, Speech-Language
Pathology, or a closely related field
• Experience and comfort working with young children and families
• Computer skills and proficiency with MS Office, Excel, Statistics packages
• Ability to reliably travel without public transportation to participants’ homes
Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and writing skills
• Skilled at interacting with a diverse participant population
• Proficiency in SALT 2012 and the NICHD Early Child Care Research Network coding system
