Subject: Postdoc position in teaching/academic career development Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning Georgia Institute of Technology Tech to Teaching and TA Support Postdoctoral Fellow Position Tech to Teaching is an NSF funded program (through the Innovation through Institutional Integration initiative) with two overarching goals: 1. To create an infrastructure on the Georgia Tech campus that encourages and enables students to effectively pursue careers in K-12 or college teaching; and 2. To develop and implement programming that ensures these students succeed in their initial years in these career paths. This position is housed in the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Georgia Tech. The goals of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at Georgia Tech are to foster, recognize and reward a community of unparalleled teachers and learners through our commitment to faculty development, assessment, and support. Our mission is to enhance the learning and teaching environment at Georgia Tech by encouraging a fully engaged, sharing community with communication networks, resources, and innovative programs. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to assist with two main areas: (1) the higher ed portion of the Tech to Teaching project and (2) teaching assistant (TA) development programs. In the higher ed portion of Tech to Teaching, our aim is to create a pathway to collegiate teaching that provides graduate students with: o Appropriate advising, o Courses and workshops in educational pedagogy, and the academic job and career, o Mentoring by faculty at Georgia Tech through mentored teaching practicum positions, o Immersion experiences teaching undergraduate courses at local colleges, and o Support for the transition to academic positions through an online community Our TA development efforts include orientation programs, workshops and seminars, teaching observations and feedback, classroom dialogues, awards, and individual consultations. This position will assist in a variety of ways including program and curriculum development and delivery, tracking of Tech to Teaching participants and alumni, and creating and supporting an online community for Tech to Teaching participants and alumni. In addition, other opportunities will include: individual consultations with graduate student teaching assistants about their teaching and/or job search; involvement in graduate student orientation and workshops and the TA Awards program; involvement in CETL events, and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum requirements for this position include an earned doctorate in education, cognitive science, or related field OR in a discipline represented at Georgia Tech, and teaching experience in higher education. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to both work independently and in a team, and to collaborate across different disciplines. Program coordination, and experience with TA Development and preparing graduate students for academic careers is extremely desirable. Also desirable are website development and editing background, experience facilitating workshops for graduate students and/or faculty, and experience consulting with TAs or instructors and giving them constructive feedback about their teaching.
