SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMPETENCY & EDUCATION CORE (STCE) UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE JUNIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATES WORKING PROGRAM

The STCE invites proposals for Junior Research Associates Programs. Graduate and Undergraduate students who will spend no less than nine (9) academic months working on a research project with an eligible mentor in an INBRE institution, in a biomedical field related to Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Drug Design, or Environmental & Behavioral Science.
Priority will be given to students at PUIs working with Faculty funded by the INBRE Developmental Research Project Program (DRPP). A scientific panel composes of the STCE Coordinator and the three collaborators will review all graduate and undergraduate student proposals.
Selection criteria for undergraduate student will include:
- Academic excellence (3.00 GPS minimum) and a demonstrated interest in research.
- Application form (provided)
- Research proposal (2 pages’ limit, NIH Format) to work on a relevant Research Area, which must be developed in collaboration with his/her faculty research mentor(s). Letter minimal size 11. Times Roman.
- A letter of recommendation from the research faculty mentor (form provided).
- Statement of Purpose describing the students’ long-term career goals (not included in proposal pages).
- An official transcript.
- A letter from an official of the University stating that the student is a fulltime student during the period of the research proposal.
Selection criteria for graduate student will include:

- Research proposal (5 pages’ limit, NIH Format) to work on a relevant Research Area, which must be developed in collaboration with his/her faculty research mentor(s). Letter minimal size 11. Times Roman.
- Two letters of recommendation, and one must be from the research faculty mentor (form provided).
- Statement of Purpose describing the students’ long-term career goals (not included in proposal pages).
- An official transcript.
- A letter from an official of the University stating that the student is a fulltime student during the period of the research proposal.
Requirements when the students are accepted:
- Documents can be requested from the office of Human Resources, Resource Center for Science and Engineering (RCSE). This documentation must be delivered 15 days before the start date.
- The start day will be contingent on the signing of the contract with the office of Human Resources, RCSE.
- At lease one poster presentation must be presented at the INBRE-External Advisory Committee visit.
- At the end of the award, participants must provide written reports describing their achievements and future plans to develop their project.
- Long term commitment to provide future information in their career path is required from the participant.
