The purpose of ASM HQ Fellowship Program is to provide an intense and multi-faceted training experience for individuals who are interested in exploring careers outside the traditional academic environment. The program is intended to advance ones’ knowledge and skills in disseminating fundamental and applied research, education, science policy and communications as it applies to furthering the microbiological sciences and the mission of ASM. 

The fellowships are for 6- to 12-consecutive months (see individual fellowship listing) and are in residency at the ASM in Washington, DC. They may require some travel.

The fellowships offers:

• up to $50,000 annual stipend,
• medical/dental/vision benefits,
• 10-day paid time off,
• ASM observed holidays, and
• a public transportation subsidy.

Prospective fellows must:

• be citizens of the United States or U.S. Permanent Residents,
• be a current member of ASM, and
• have a background in microbiology, or related field.

Note: For fellowship programs that require a doctoral degree, the applicant must obtain the degree by the start of the fellowship.

Applicants begin the application process by establishing a profile. Candidates selected for interviews must be available for virtual interviews and available to travel to and from Washington, DC at their own expense.
