Job Overview: The project manager will work in Environmental Defense's Latin America & Caribbean program within the Oceans Program to promote, develop and implement sustainable fisheries management, and sustainable coastal and tourism practices in Latin America and the Caribbean. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Direct and oversee local consultants working on current LAC program projects. * Engage with fishermen and key stakeholders in developing countries to build local capacity in sustainable fisheries management practices. * Meet timelines, deliverables, outputs and budget projections on current LAC program projects. * Draft proposals, white papers and concept documents for funders, and other external audiences. * Implement market-based solutions to the problems affecting fisheries, tourism and coastal management, and sustainable development. * Identify and implement solutions to bring about improved financial sustainability for marine protected areas in LAC focus countries. * Research innovative market-based solutions to ocean conservation, coastal management and sustainable development that can be effectively implemented. * Work collaboratively with other organizations engaged in related endeavors. * In the longer term, assist the program director in developing new business opportunities. Responsibilities will also include working as a member of the LAC team to meet all project deliverables. In other words, we all share responsibility for meeting the objectives and targets for the program. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the ability to manage projects and individuals, meet strict deadlines, and produce positive results. In addition, we seek a candidate who is capable of identifying and cultivating partnerships and leaders in fisheries, protected area management and coastal communities; and is able to summarize their results for presentation to both technical specialists and to general audiences. * Master's degree in a related field, such as environmental management, business administration, or public policy with a quantitative focus. * At least 5 years relevant work experience in environmental management, business administration or public policy * Experience designing and implementing market- and ecosystem-based management tools for ecological conservation. * Ability to use science, law, economics and advocacy to initiate and win positive environmental change. * Experience working in multi-cultural environments and in developing countries, particularly Latin America. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience. * Ability to work independently on multiple projects in a loosely structured atmosphere. * Spanish speaking ability - working proficiency.
