Working in the Process Biochemistry group the incumbent will investigate rapid, high-throughput screening techniques to identify chromatograpy resins and conditions appropriate for the purification of biologics. Reporting directly to a senior staff member the person will develop protocols for automated screening using a liquid-handling robot and 96-well plates. The work will include preparation and screening of appropriate chromatography solutions and analysis of purification intermediates by UV absorbance (platereader), HPLC (SEC and HIC) and rapid, high-throughput SDS-PAGE. The position may involve electronic submission of samples to Analytical Development for analysis (LIMS). It is expected that screening studies will be followed-up by small scale column chromatography experiments using manual or automated (AKTA Explorer) systems. Willingness to work creatively and independently with limited supervision preferred.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Chemical Engineering. Basic understanding of protein chemistry. Familiarity with basic protein analytical techniques preferred. Knowledge of MS Office familiarity with column chromatography, FPLC and HPLC instruments and techniques and/or liquid handling instruments is a plus.
Additional Notes
This is a nine month contract position that they hope will turn into a full time position, but with no guarantee.
