Professional Research Assistant

The laboratory of Dr. Sujatha Jagannathan seeks to hire a Research Assistant to work on leading edge questions in RNA biology. Our lab is in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and part of the newly formed RNA Bioscience Initiative at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Research Assistant will work on exciting projects related to cellular mRNA surveillance using imaging, genome engineering, and high-throughput sequencing. The primary nature of the work will be experimental bench work in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, with the opportunity to learn cutting edge genomic technologies and high throughput data analysis techniques.


The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in biological sciences or a related field. Knowledge of the general techniques used in molecular biology and biochemistry is expected. Exceptional candidates without prior experience will be considered if they demonstrate a willingness to learn and possess strong critical thinking and attention to detail. The candidate must be self-motivated, organized, communicate effectively, and be a team player. We are open to both experienced individuals looking for longer-term positions and recent college graduates interested in gaining further research experience. A minimum of an 18 month commitment is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
·       Bachelors degree in biological science or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:
·       Experimental experience with RNA biochemistry and/or molecular biology.

        Experience with mammalian cell culture and microscopy.
