Applications Now Open for ASCB MAC Professional Development Programs

The Postdoc/Jr Faculty Career Development Workshop is popular for junior faculty and postdocs interested in academic careers and offers extensive networking opportunities and training to navigate tricky areas including: professional conduct, tenure, grantsmanship, mentorship, leadership, collaborations, time management, writing, and lab setup/management.  Full Travel Support to attend is available for members of underrepresented groups in the sciences, members of disadvantaged populations, faculty (regardless of ethnicity) at minority-serving institutions, and individuals with interest and experience in expanding access and educational opportunities to under-represented students.

The Faculty Research and Education Development (FRED) Mentoring Programis for junior faculty to get a year of one-on-one help writing grants related to cell biology from an established research mentor and mock review panels.

The Visiting Professors Program is designed for junior or mid-career faculty members from PUIs to visit a senior scientist’s institution for an 8- to 10-week summer experience to achieve specific professional development goals (e.g., expanding a research collaboration).

The Linkage Fellows Program is open to faculty from minority-serving institutions to support outreach and activities that promote cell biology at their home institutions. The activities should expose students to cell biology or foster a better understanding of cell biology research and its benefit to society among student participants and/or the public.

More information is available at http://www.ascb.org/community-committee/minorities-affairs/. All four applications close on March 1, 2017.
