The Caribbean Genome Center (CGC) cordially invites you to attend the Workshop on Genes and Genomes with Ion Torrent™ Personal Genome Machine (PGM™) sequencing that will take place at UPR- Mayagüez on October 22-26, 2012. The purpose of the workshop is to show the capabilities of Next Generation Sequencing Technology that are currently available in Mayaguez Campus. The event will also bring experts from Cancer Genomics Research Laboratory of the National Cancer Institute, NIH, the world's larges next generation sequencing center currently using Ion™ PGM™, and representatives from Life Technologies that will be available for personal interaction during several featured talks (see the attached booklet) and social events that will follow. Currently, we are making the necessary reservations,

Please RSVP to this invitation and indicate which day and which event you would be interested in attending.

Powered by Ion Torrent™ semiconductor chip technology the Ion PGM™ Sequencer delivers the fastest run times among the available sequencing platforms, while doing it at the most affordable price. High accuracy, and long reads put the Ion PGM™ in a class of its own and makes next-generation sequencing more accessible to scientists and biomedical professionals around the world. We are the first center in the Caribbean offering training and services in next generation sequencing to scientists and medical professionals. The scope of next generation sequencing is increasing every day, but at this time applications in exome sequencing, target resequencing, human-scale genome sequencing, microbial sequencing, mitochondrial sequencing, ChIP-Seq, RNA-seq, and whole transciptome sequencing are already available. The applications of Ion Torrent PGM already adapted at CGC include screening tumor tissues for diagnostic cancer mutations in 409 cancer genes, detecting disease-associated alleles in 700 inherited mutations including those in kidney disease, asthma, diabetes, and other health conditions prevalent in the region.

The Caribbean Genome Center will be able to collaborate with you and help you in your sequencing and genotyping needs. Please come to find out what new and exciting possibilities for biological research and medical diagnostics we have to offer.
