The WRIISC Center at Palo Alto VA announces the availability of a research fellowship
to study the molecular mechanisms of cognitive alterations in PTSD and/or TBI
The newly expanded War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) laboratory at the Palo Alto VA, California is seeking a highly motivated clinician/neuroscientist to join our efforts as a postdoctoral fellow for understanding and developing therapeutics strategies for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This individual will use molecular, genetic, imaging, biochemical, and morphological techniques to investigate the molecular mechanisms of PTSD and TBI and investigate therapeutic approaches. The post-doctoral position is a joint position between the Palo Alto VA and Stanford University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
The WRIISC laboratory is housed at the Palo Alto VA hospital, California and works with researchers at Stanford University, Stanford Medical School. The laboratory is equipped with advanced morphometrical and stereological systems, real time QPCR machine, Illumina machine for SNP analysis, various cognitive tests, and laser capture microdissection system. These, complement histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization equipments already available at the WRIISC laboratory.
The position requires an earned M.D. and applicants must have completed ACGME accredited residency training in a relevant area, be board eligible or board certified, and have an active, unrestricted U.S. license to practice. International medical graduates must also have a current visa and a valid ECFMG certificate.
Applicants on a J-1 visa must have current ECFMG sponsorship as well. The VA funds Fellows’ stipends in amounts based on Stanford’s Department of Psychiatry rate for completed ACGME accredited residency training. An earned Ph.D. in a neuroscience-related field will be highly desirable but not required. The fellow should be rigorous and have an immense interest in the field of neuroscience. This is a two-year post-doctoral program which combines individualized and mentored research and clinical training with a
state-of-the-art curriculum that emphasizes the program. The Fellow will devote 75% of his/her time to research and 25% to clinical training. The completion of the Fellowship will also be certified by Stanford Medical School.
