Possible solution for the waste management problem

This article is reproduced by CienciaPR with permission from the original source.

An adapted plasma machine could be an alternative to turn solid waste into energy and construction materials. As of today, Puerto Rico has not accepted any of the proposals to establish this kind of plants to manage solid waste. Among the reasons for this are the high costs of this technology, the number of requirements and the time that installing a facility like this would require. The key difference between incineration and plasma torch machines is that this new technology disintegrates molecules and does not generate combustion. They don’t generate CO2, the main contributor to greenhouse gases. The CO2 molecule dissociates at approximately 1,500 degrees Celsius and the plasma machines work at 5,000 degrees Celsius.
