About 2.5 % of the Puerto Rican population suffers from hypothyroidismm, a condition that causes the thyroid gland to produce less hormone. As a consequence a person can feel tired, have high blood pressure and highcholesterol, and have a decrease in the ability to remember or do the house choes. Thyroid gland conditions can be confused with diabetes, high blood pressure, or autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or anemia.
