The University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (RUM) received a grant from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to research and explore the Puerto Rico Trench, the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean.

The University of Puerto Rico will be a key partner in a collaboration to develop a vaccine against HIV, together with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and CDI Labs, and with the support of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company and the National Insitute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

The National Wildlife Refuge in Vieques is the only one of its kind in Puerto Rico to produce its own electricity based on solar power. For that they will be recognized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Space rocks continue to be hard to detect when they are relatively small. An asteroid which size is estimated between 29 and 91 feet in diameter will pass close to Earth on Sunday, informed the Center of Asteroid Detection of the Astronomical International Union.
