The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at Mayagüez, along with the pharmaceutical company Amgen, have started the series of biotechnology conferences Amgen Biotechnology Lecture Series (ABLS). The first lecture took place at the UPR in Río Piedras. The next lectures will be hosted at the UPR-Arecibo on March 26 and at UPR- Carolina on April 26.

Students from the José Rodríguez de Soto Elementary School in Guánica won the Internationla Photography Contest of UNESCO's Sandwatch Program. For a year the students documented the changes ocurring in their hometown's beaches.
