Ángel Nieves Rivera and Edgar Maíz López recently published a book about little-known Puerto Rican naturalist Narciso Rabell Cabrero (1873-1928). Considered a Reinassance Man, Rabell Cabrero was a paleontologist, pharmacist, chemist, botanist and amateur archaeologist. He was also a politician, educator, civil leader, musician and philantropist.

A couple of years ago, one of my thesis mentors sought visually impaired scientists working at a major space science agency in the United States. I was surprised when he reported that there were several visually impaired engineers, but almost no visually impaired scientists like me.

Recently a group of researchers from the Corporation for Environmental Sustainability (COSUAM, in Spanish) published a study that looked at climate and temperature trends in different regions of Puerto Rico. The researchers concluded that local geographical conditions affect temperature in different parts of Puerto Rico. Their projections predict that climate in Puerto Rico has been getting warmer over the years and that this trend is likely to continue.
